The new steel roof - Il nuovo tetto d'acciaio

In our mind the new part of the house had to be different from the old part. Not only different, but modern and more technological. Therfore the architect designed a roof made of steel to underline the difference. We liked the idea, that now is reality.

Nella nostra mente la parte nuova della casa doveva essere diversa dalla parte vecchia. Non solo diversa, ma moderna e più tecnologica. Quindi l'architetto disegnò un tetto d'acciaio per sottolineare la differenza. L'idea ci piacque, ed ora è realtà.

 

Tiles - Tegole

At the end of July the builders made the roof of the old part of the house. It was cleverly done: underneath there are new tiles, covered by old tiles recovered from the old roof. Some pictures will explain better than many words.

Alla fine di Luglio era stato completato il tetto della parte vecchia della casa. E' stato fatto in modo intelligente, mettendo sotto tegole nuove e sopra coppi recuperati dal vecchio tetto. Alcune foto sono più esplicative di molte parole.

The new tiles are laid on the battens. The old tiles are laid on the new ones. On the right the metal junction (flashing) of the chimney pot. - Le tegole nuove poggiano sui listelli di legno. Le tegole vecchie di recupero sono posate sopra le nuove. Sulla destra si vede la giunzione metallica (conversa) del camino.

The roof looks like old, like that one of the "Little House" - Il tetto sembra vecchio, come quello della Casetta.

And at this point the builders went on holiday and came back only in November, when the house was like this:

A questo punto gli operai andarono in vacanza e tornarono solo in novembre, quando la casa era così:

Why such a long silence? Perchè un silenzio così lungo?

This is quite a reasonable question! more than two months without writing a single word! The answer is quite simple: the building firm went on holiday in August, as almost everybody does in Italy. We expected that they would have restarted in September, and they indeed restarted...but not our house. They started to do another building! In Italy these are bad times for builders. Italy is troubled by a profound economic crisis, so building firms are taking as many works as possible, and planning mistakes become more probable. So there was a very long pause, nothing happened in September and October. They restarted only in mid November, at last!

Domanda ragionevole! Due mesi senza scrivere neanche una parola! La risposta è molto semplice: l'impresa edile è andata in vacanza in agosto, come fanno quasi tutti in Italia. Noi ci aspettavamo la ripresa dei lavori in settembre, in effetti hanno ricominciato...ma non nella nostra casa. Hanno iniziato un altro edificio! In Italia sono tempi duri per l'edilizia, così le imprese prendono quanti più lavori possibile, e gli errori di pianificazione diventano più probabili. Così c'è stata una lunga pausa, non è successo nulla nè in settembre nè in ottibre. Hanno ricominciato, finalmente, a metà novembre.
