The word "Fol" comes from the italian verb "follare" (english "to full") that means "to scour and beat, as a means of finishing or cleansing woollens; to scour and thicken in a mill". We are talking about textile industry. In former times the "Fol" was active with weaving factories, sawmills, blacksmiths.
In 15th and 16th century Belluno was famous in all Europe for making excellent swords, that were exported even to London. Now there are only derelict remains of that ancient flourishing activity.

risuonava dell'attività di industrie tessili, segherie, fabbri ferrai. Nel 15° e 16° secolo Belluno era famosa in tutta Europa per le sue spade, che venivano esportate persino a Londra. Ora di quella fiorente attività rimangono solo dei resti in completa rovina.

Borgo Pra (Belluno's working class quarters) was filled in 40 years ago (early 70s). No more water running, a piece of history lost for ever.
Il canale industriale, denominato "la Roggia" (Roja
in dialetto bellunese), correva attraverso i quartieri industriali dell'epoca; Finsterre, il Fol, Borgo Pra. Ma adesso non c'è più traccia d'acqua. La Roggia è stata interrata 40 anni fa ed un pezzo di storia se ne è andato per sempre.
But our water mill is still here, at least the building.
Guess where the "Roggia" used to run...not too difficult...filled in and trasformed into a road. The architectural details are interesting, and this is the reason why the building is protected, as a historical stone document of the past.
Ma il nostro Molino è ancora qui, l'edificio per lo
meno. Guardando la foto, prova ad indovinare dove correva la Roggia...non è difficile...interrata e trasformata in una strada.
I dettagli architettonici dell'edificio sono interessanti, per questo è protetto, testimone del passato della Belluno minore.
