The new steel structure - La nuova struttura in acciaio

The new part of the Old House is going to be totally different from the old part. Even the structure will be different: a new steel structure...that is ready in the workshop.
La parte nuova della Casa Vecchia sarà completamente diversa dalla parte vecchia. Anche la struttura sarà diversa: una nuova struttura d'acciaio...che è già pronta in officina.

Now the Old House is quiet, but in October a last big event happened: the concrete reinforcement of the second floor and the attic.


Adesso la Casa Vecchia è tranquilla, ma in Ottobre un'ultimo, importante avvenimento è accaduto: il getto del solaio del secondo piano e della soffitta.

1st October, morning: the builders are working very hard because in early afternoon the concrete mixer (the "monster") will arrive. Everything must be ready for the cast.

1° Ottobre, mattino: gli operai stanno lavorando duro perchè nel primo pomeriggio arriverà la betoniera. Tutto deve essere pronto per il getto.

The basis of the new structure - Le basi della nuova struttura

The word "demolition" implies a "reconstruction". The new structure is going to be completely different from the old one. First of all it is necessary to create a solid basis for the new structure, a basis made of steel beams and concrete.

La parola "demolizione" implica una "ricostruzione". La nuova struttura sarà completamente diversa dalla vecchia. Prima di tutto è necessario creare una solida base per la nuova struttura, una base fatta di travi d'acciaio e cemento armato.

Demolition - Demolizione

September was spent demolishing the "mistery" part of the Old House. The following pictures will describe the process better than words.

What will happen next? - Cosa accadrà adesso?

Now the renovation is at a turning point. To understand what is going to happen, it is necessary to go back to the past. The Old House, originally, was different. Tthe roof was at two levels: the back part was higher than the front part. In the fifties another storey was added to the front part and the roof was heightened at one level.

Ora la ristrutturazione è a un punto di svolta. Per comprendere cosa sta per accadere, è necessario tornare al passato. La Casa Vecchia, originariamente, era diversa. Il tetto era a due livelli: più alto nella parte posteriore rispetto a quella anteriore. Negli anni cinquanta fu aggiunto un piano alla parte anteriore e il tetto venne alzato tutto ad uno stesso livello. 

 

It is evident that the roof was changed and a new storey added - E' evidente che il tetto fu modificato e venne aggiunto un piano.

The new windows have a completely different style from the old ones, as you can see from the pictures.

Le nuove finestre hanno uno stile completamente diverso da quelle vecchie, come si può ben vedere dalle foto.

 

 

Michela and me did not like the result obtained in the fifties,  in our opinion it is  really  ugly and wanted to change, hoping to improve it. We had two possibilities: either  restore the house how it was before, for example putting four small windows instead of the two big ones...

Non ci piaceva per nulla quanto era stato fatto negli anni cinquanta, ai nostri occhi era davvero brutto e volevamo cambiare. Avevamo due possibilità: o ristrutturare la casa com'era prima, ad esempio facendo quattro piccole finestre al posto delle due grandi...

...or we could do something strikingly different, an experiment to merge tradition and innovation, old style and contemporary architecture. We would like to bring out the old tradional building against  a truly modern new structure. We decided to demolish the part added in the fifties...of course with the permission of the Building Committee! The result will be a surprise for you...and for us too.

...oppure potevamo fare qualcosa di totalmente diverso, un esperimento di fondere tradizione e innovazione, vecchio stile e architettura contemporanea. Volevamo far risaltare l'edificio tradizionale contrapponendogli una struttura nuova davvero moderna. Decidemmo di demolire la parte aggiunta (superfetazione) negli anni cinquanta...naturalmente con il permesso della Commissione edilizia comunale! Il risultato sarà una sorpresa, non solo per voi ma anche per noi!
