Consolidation of the second floor - Consolidamento del secondo piano

The consolidation of the second floor was a bit more complicated. In order to keep the concrete layer within 10 cm,  L shaped steel bars were laid all around the walls.

Il consolidamento del secondo solaio fu un po' più complicato. Al fine di mantenere lo spessore dello strato di calcestruzzo armato entro i 10 cm, tutt'attorno ai muri perimetrali vennero posizionate delle barre d'acciaio a forma di L.

The L shaped bars were fixed into the walls.

Le barre vennero fissate alle murature perimetrali.

Then it was added the reinforcement metallic net.

Infine venne aggiunta la rete metallica di rinforzo.

What will the Old House become? - Cosa diventerà la Casa Vecchia?

It is high time to answer this question. Of course the Old House will become our home, but we will live in the top flat, at the second floor. The first floor will be turned into a B&B with two mini-flats:

• entrance to Flat 1 from the Little House courtyard
• entrance to Flat 2 fom the inner courtyard

E' ora di rispondere a questa domanda. Naturalmente la Casa Vecchia diventerà la nostra casa, ma vivremo solo nell'appartamento al secondo piano. Il primo piano diventerà un B&B con due mini-appartamenti. I due appartamenti avranno ingressi autonomi, il primo dal cortile della Casetta, il secondo dal cortile interno.

Another staircase connects our flat, at the 2nd floor, with the Sauna, Hall and Old Kitchen at the ground floor.

Un'altra scala collega il nostro appartamento, al 2° piano, con la Sauna, l'Androne e l'Antica Cucina, al pian terreno.

In the Old Kitchen there were two problems: the ancient fire place hood and chimney and the windows. The chimney was consolidated with concrete while the windows had to be reinforced substituting new steel beams for the old rotten wooden beams.


L'antica cucina presentava due problemi: il camino del "larìn" e le finestre. Il camino venne rinforzato con calcestruzzo mentre le finestre vennero consolidate sostituendo le vecchie piattabande di legno mezzo marcio con nuove piattabande d'acciaio.

Restorattion of the Hall ceiling - Restauro del soffitto dell'Androne

In the Hall and the Old Kitchen the old beams and planks of the ceiling were taken down, cleaned, treated with an anti-woodworm product, then ripositioned.

L'antica cicina e l'androne vennero rinnovati, mantenendo però le antiche travi e il tavolato originale. Le travi e le tavole vennero rimosse, pulite, trattate con un prodotto antitarlo e rimontate.

At the beginning of July they demolished the wooden floor over the Hall and the Old Kitchen: the red area on the plan.
All'inizio di luglio è stato demolito il solaio di legno sopra l'androne e la vecchia cucina: l'area rossa sulla pianta.

The wooden beams has been removed and you can see the first floor windows - I travi sono stati rimossi e si vedono le finestre del primo piano

First floor - Primo piano

The pictures show the construction steps of the first floor: 1 planks platform - 2 bricks layer - 3 metallic net that goes into the stone walls - 4 concrete on top.

Sauna

We dream of a sauna in the house: a room in the basement (ground floor) would be good because it is easy to go out into the garden.

The floors of the Old House are made of wooden beams (rotten) and boards. In order to strenghten the structure, all floors need to be removed and remade of concrete. The first step was to remove the floors of the kitchen, bathroom and room 1 of the first floor. The partition between room 1 and bathroom was also removed to get a bigger sleeping room.

I solai della Casa Vecchia sono fatti di travi (marci) e tavole di legno. Per rinforzare la struttura a scopo antisismico, i solai devono essere rimossi e rifatti in calcestruzzo. Il primo passo è stato rimuovere i solai della cucina, della stanza 1 e del bagno del primo piano. Anche la tramezza tra stanza 1 e bagno è stata rimossa per ottenere una camera più grande.
