The fireplace - Il caminetto

One of the great satisfations in life is to sit by the fireplace during the long, cold winter evenings, therefore a fireplace was installed in the living room. It is a Norwegian Jotul (model I 350) fireplace. It works really like a stove, because it is ermetically closed, and the combustion is absolutely clean.

Una delle grandi soddisfazioni della vita è sedere davanti al caminetto nelle lunghe, fredde serate invernali, quindi abbiamo installato un caminetto in soggiorno. E' un caminetto della ditta norvegese Jotul (modello I 350). Per il vero funziona come una stufa, poichè è ermeticamente chiuso, e la combustione è assolutamente pulita.

The orange hole close to the floor is the air inlet. On the right hand side (looking at the picture) there is the chimney pot. - Il foro arancione appena sopra il pavimento è la presa d'aria esterna. Sulla destra (guardando la foro) c'è la canna fumaria.

Beside the fireplace a stainless steel niche for the firewood. - A fianco del caminetto una nicchia d'acciaio inossidabile per la legna da ardere.

Inner insulation of the new part of the house - Isolamento interno della parte nuova.

The new part of the house has also an inner insulation made of rock wool, 10 cm thick. The realisation of the living room inner insulation and plasterboard wall is shown in some details.

La parte nuova della casa ha anche un isolamento interno costituito da lana di roccia, 10 cm di spessore. Viene mostrata in dettaglio la realizzazzione dell'isolamento e della parete in cartongesso del soggiorno.
 

Metallic frame and electrical system pipes - Intelaiatura metallica e tubazioni plastiche dell'impianto elettrico.

Distance from the OSB panel and metallic frame: 10 cm. This space is going to be filled with rock wool - Distanza tra pannello OSB e intelaiatura metallica: 10 cm. Questo spazio verrà riempito di lana di roccia.

Rock wool: first layer -  Lana di roccia: primo strato.

Rock wool: second layer. There are also some wood planks as reinforcement. - Lana di roccia: secondo strato. Ci sono anche delle tavole di legno di rinforzo.

The wall is finished with two layers of plasterboards. - La parete è finita con cartongesso (doppia lastra).

Steel connexion - Connessione d'acciao

Connexion between what? The living room of our flat opens up into a mezzanine and of course you need a staircase to go up.  The staircase is made of steel, therefore it is a "steel connexion".

Connessione tra cosa? Il soggiorno del nostro appartamento è aperto in alto su di un soppalco e naturalmente è necessaria una scala per salirvi. La scala è d'acciaio, quindi è "una connessione d'acciaio".

The wooden structure of the new part - La struttura in legno della parte nuova.

The wooden walls building process of the new part of the house (light frame construction) went through the following steps: 1) an OSB sandwich with wood fiber insulation in-between; 2) a first blue sheet (Riwega USB classic light) against the wind 3) a wooden laths frame 4) a second black sheet (Riwega USB Windtop UV) against the wind 5) a final covering made of natural larch boards (laths).

Il processo costruttivo delle pareti in legno della parte nuova della casa (costruzione e telaio leggero) ha attraversato le seguenti fasi: 1) un sandwich di pannelli OSB con un isolamento di fibra di legno in mezzo 2) un primo telo azzurro (Riwega USB classic light) antivento 3) un telaio di listelli di legno 4) un secondo telo nero antivento (Riwega USB Windtop UV) 5) un rivestimento finale in listelli di larice naturale, non trattato nè verniciato.

26th July 2012 - The wooden walls are finished - Le pareti in legno sono finite.

1st November 2012 - Scaffolding removed. Windows still missing - Impalcatura rimossa. Finestre ancora mancanti.

15th November 2012 New larch Windows Wolf Fenster - Nuove finestre in larice della ditta Wolf.

23d November 2012 - View from the garden. The house is almost finished - Vista dal giardino. La casa è quasi finita.

Snow! - Neve!

12th February: faboulus, white, silent, landscape. The town is covered with a thick layer of snow. The pictures are taken at 7:30 in the morning, on my way to work.

I left the water-mill with the roof half finished. What happened next? We were waiting for the photovoltaic panels, that arrived at the end of september. In ancient times the water mill used the clean energy of the running water, now it produces clean energy from the sun!

Ho lasciato il mulino con il tetto finito a metà. Cosa è succeso poi? Stavamo aspettando i pannelli fotovoltaici, che sono arrivati a fine settembre. Nei tempi andati il mulino usava l'energia pulita dell'acqua, adesso produce energia pulita dal sole!

October: the pipes'month - Ottobre: il mese dei tubi

October was the "pipes'month". The courtyard was like a minefield: trenches, holes, ditches in every directions, some deeper, others more superficial to lay down the many pipes that a modern house needs to function properly. First of all we wanted to collect rain water from the gutters, so a 5000 litres tank was buried underground. Second there is the pipes system to drain the water from the sinks of the kitchens. These pipes have to go into a big tank to separate oil and fat from the water, then the clean water goes to thesewage system. On the contrary, the pipes that collect wasting water from the bathrooms go straight into the sewage system. A few pictures will show you how complicated all this is.

Ottobre è stato il "mese dei tubi". Il cortile era come un campo minato: trincee, buchi, fossati in ogni direzione, alcuni più profondi, altri più in superficie. Innanzitutto volevamo raccogliere l'acqua piovana, così è stato interrato un serbatoio da 5000 litri. Poi c'è il sistema di drenaggio dell'acqua di scarico delle cucine. Questi tubi vanno in un serbatoio detto "condensa grassi", dove i grassi si depositano così le acque "pulite" possono essere scaricate in fognatura. Al contrario le acque di scarico dei bagni vanno direttamente in fognatura. Alcune foto vi mostreranno quanto complicato è tutto il sistema.

This cement cylinder is a sedimentation tank to separate grease and oil coming from the kitchen - Questo cilindro di cemento è il serbatoio di decantazione detto "condensa grassi" per separare i grassi provenienti dalla cucina.
